P.S. Editing to clarify the winner’s choice thing, I realize I left it pretty open.. of the little bows, the winner may choose one set of 2.  Of the large bows, the winner may choose only one. 

It was held at the school my daughter will be attending next year for Kindergarten, for their annual school spring carnival.  And if they hold it again next year, I have a general idea of when it will be so I’ll have more time to prepare.

I didn’t do any practice set up for arranging my table, I was making it up as I went.  I don’t know about anyone else, but I think I did okay with it.

The only thing I prepped ahead of time was what I was hanging the bows & jewelry off of – which consisted of:

two 10×14 canvases painted pink and six 3/4” hooks screwed into the tops, for the bows

and two 9×7 canvases painted, one with the same 3/4” hooks and the other with 1/8” ribbon hot glued across the front.

I didn’t get any sales that day, although four people did ask for my business card.  Thank you for stopping by to look at my wares yesterday!

It was a good learning experience, and I did learn a couple of things.  One, make sure I have plenty of time to prepare for it so I can build up my product.  When I was scrambling this week to make bows, I centered on the two upcoming holidays – St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter, so I had mostly green and Easter colored bows, with the exception of four 4th of July bows I had ‘in the wings’ already, that is I had the ribbon cut but had not started putting them together when I decided to do this.  I definitely need a better selection of colors and types of bows.  And probably more specific things like the flower clips and hats that seem to be popular these days.  And korkers, I want to try making a bunch of those, too.

Second, I am going to have someone help me with loading and unloading my car, especially if I have more product to set up in the future.  It was tough by myself, although in the morning when I got there, the gal that was in charge of the Sell-a-Bration offered to help me carry in some things, and she took in my table.  Thank you!!!

So that is what has been going on for the past two weeks or so – preparing for my first show.

If anyone sees a bow they would like to buy, either comment here or send me a message in my contact form, at least until I get them posted in my Artfire shop.  Speaking of my shop, I need to go and take it out of vacation mode now.

I’m a little embarrassed to say it was bad coding on my part, and apparently FF and Chrome just “knew” what I was getting at, while IE was taking things literally.

With the help of my mother-in-law, who I am quite grateful for saving me the headache of figuring out what went wrong, all should look good now.  Can’t promise anything in older browsers, but the up-to-date ones should be good to go.

ArtFire is down for maintenance, so I haven’t been able to post my challenge piece for the Polymer Clay Smooshers.  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to post it again before everything gets locked down by the guildmaster in the morning, but I need to get to bed, so I’ll post a pic here for now.

It’s a pendant, made with Pardo polymer clay and cotton embroidery thread and hemp cord teased out in the mane.

I had to take a quick picture before bed so it’s not that great; I’ll need to get better ones later this weekend, especially if I manage to get this posted up on ArtFire for sale.

These can be used to make a charm bracelet, earrings or a necklace.  If you like pumpkin pie, you might like these, especially since they are zero calories and zero fat!

Anyway. August’s Polymer Clay Smoosher’s challenge theme was “medieval”, and here are the two pieces I came up with for it.

This one is a pewter colored medieval cross.  Hand cut and shaped, with a red decorative marble for the centerpiece and Trinity knots carved in each section of the cross’ arms.

The second entry is a gold or brass colored version of a medieval cross.  Like the other, it also has Trinity knots carved into it and is hand cut and shaped.  I’m working on a third one that is copper colored.

They’re both available in my studio for $15 USD each.

First, a rather irritated alien lady.  She has three eyes, and glows in the dark:

My second item, is a stylized Blue Moon pendant, which also glows in the dark:

They’re both made with glow in the dark polymer clay.  The alien lady’s eye stalks are clay covered head pins, anchored into the clay.  For the Blue Moon pendant, I shaped it by hand and added the crater shapes with some tools, then sanded & buffed it after baking.  Last I added some blue acrylic paint for a patina and re-buffed it after the paint was dry to bring the shine out again.

It put me in such a great mood I decided to add a couple more listings for some earrings I made a couple weekends ago.  I still have like six more to list (one of which still needs pictures), but this is a start, right?

First, a pretty antiqued brass filigree and white rice shaped freshwater pearl earrings:

Then my next listing is called “Flower Garden” earrings, it’s lucite flowers in reds & oranges, Czech pressed glass flower beads in red, AB crystal and fuschia lemon colors, all flowers have a Swarovski pearl center, hanging on textured antiqued brass chain and ballpins or headpins:

I’ll try to add more of the earrings I made as time permits over the next week or so.  The day job has been brutal lately, even after we got everything caught up.  But I think this sale I had today will keep me in the pink for a few days anyway!
